Call for Participation in International Conference: Remapping Brazilian Cultural Studies

Friday 25 September 2015, Court Room, Senate House, University of London, Malet Street, London WC1E 7HU

Proposals and expressions of interest are invited for participation in this one-day conference, supported by the Institute of Latin American Studies, University of London, which will also serve as the launch and first meeting of a new Brazilian cultural analysis research network, REBRAC (Rede Europeia de Brasilianistas de Análise Cultural).

Organisers: Dr Sara Brandellero, Leiden University; Dr Stephanie Dennison, University of Leeds; Dr Tori Holmes, Queen’s University Belfast

The purpose of the event is to provide a space for scholars working in the UK and mainland Europe to present cutting-edge research on cultural studies/cultural analysis in the Brazilian context and, in particular, to reflect on the current direction the research area is taking in the UK/Europe. Participation from postgraduate students and scholars working in mainland Europe is particularly encouraged. As well as research, the event will also cover teaching of Brazilian cultural studies and the intersection with other institutions, such as libraries.

A number of invited speakers are already confirmed for the event (see below) but a call is now being made for further proposals and expressions of interest.

Participation in the event might take different forms, for example the presentation of a research paper (20mins), short positional papers or statements of work in progress (10-15 mins), participation as a respondent or round-table contributor. A flexible, open and responsive approach is being taken and proposals will be considered in relation to their fit with the event. Speakers may present in English or Portuguese. Please send a 250 word abstract to rebrac.network@gmail.com by Friday 7 August stating your preferred mode of participation and your proposed topic.
